NT: Jury retires in Yunupingu trial
DARWIN, April 18 AAP - The jury has retired to consider a murder charge against theson of Northern Land Council chairman Galarrwuy Yunupingu over the death of a close relative.
The defence has asked the Northern Territory Supreme Court jurors to find Gavin MakumaYunupingu, 28, guilty of a lesser charge of performing a dangerous act.
Makuma Yunupingu, who was a backup vocalist with the band Yothu Yindi and appearedin the recent movie Yolngu Boy, kicked his 40-year-old sister-in-law in the head at hisArnhem Land home at Ski Beach on August 9, 2000.
The jury retired at 12.21pm (CST) after Chief Justice Brian Martin spent the morninginstructing them.
